UPCOMING EVENTS

  • 'Stop the Gravel Pit' Rally

LWVSL Program Director Linda Smith shared the Salt Lake League’s position on the gravel pit July 2023, providing oral comments to the DAQ and speaking at the Stop the Gravel Pit rally. The LWVSL opposes the proposed Approval Order for the aggregate mining facility in Parley’s Canyon. During the legislative session, on behalf of the League, Smith advocated against two proposed bills that would have changed the law to permit this gravel pit. Neither law passed. Instead, the legislature mandated a study of sand, gravel and aggregate availability. Smith will continue to monitor the outcomes of that study on behalf of the League.

  • LWVSL Members Get Social!

The LWVSL Membership committee is always looking for new opportunities to help members connect and have fun. We have had two socials and are planning the next exciting event for summer. Keep an eye out for announcements.

The League of Women Voters, formed after women won the right to vote, welcomes everyone who is interested in taking a larger role in public affairs.

The Salt Lake League works closely with the state League on legislative issues. We register voters following naturalization ceremonies and at other events, work on civic education in various ways including studies and small-group discussions, monitor local governments and create voters guides before elections.

There is much more, and certainly a place for you in our work to preserve democracy.
